A List of Typical Interview Questions
Answering Questions at an Interview
We are all nervous before a job interview, it's only natural. Especially if you are applying for your dream job or are in need of a new job, and quick!
So by this point you have probably already submitted a resume and cover letter. And have been called to come in for an interview at later date. Congrats! The only problem now is the anxiety of that upcoming interview. You don't want to say the wrong thing and screw up your chances that new job.
I have created a list of 21 typical interview questions that are asked at job interviews. With this list of typical interview questions you can practice answering these questions to help prevent tha "ummmm....." moment.
A Sample of Typical Interview Questions
- What would you say your strengths are?
- What would you say your weaknesses are?
- Do you have an experience? (If not, let them know some of your qualities that make you right for the job even without the experience.)
- What is the definition of integrity?
- Why should be hire you?
- When given _________ situation and _________ situation. Which would be your priority?
- Tell me about yourself. (Usually best to give a small example of what you like to do. And an even bigger example of things you like to do that can be related to the job you are applying for.)
- Why did you leave your old job? (If you left because this was a bad place to work. Simply say "because of personal reasons", never put down a former place of work in a interview.)
- Do you wear your seat belt? And if so, why? (They are asking to see if you follow the law.)
- How would you handle an upset client/customer?
- What are your expectations of the job?
- What do you expect from your supervisor?
- What do you know about the company?
- How long do you expect to work here, if hired?
- What problems have you had with previous supervisors? (Do not answer this question. Simply say there isn't anything that comes to mind.)
- Are you able to work under pressure?
- Where else have you applied?
- Are you available to work weekends, nights or overtime? (Be honest)
- Are you willing to relocate if required? (Be honest)
- How do you feel about team work?
- What would former co-workers say about you?
O.K., so there is one more question that is commonly asked at an interview aside from this list of sample interview questions, "Do you have any questions for me?" It is best to have a previously prepared list of questions to ask the interviewer. This shows that you have done some research on the company and have a genuine interest in working there.
You can practice answering a few of these sample interview questions prior to your interview to better prepare yourself and to prevent the "uh umm I don't know" answer. Remember you are trying to sell yourself as the best employee. This isn't the time to be modest.
Hint: Some people find it helpful to practice answering typical interview questions with a friend or family memeber.
Good luck at your interview!
